City on a Hill Muscat D’Alexandrie 2018
Many varietals in South Africa have nicknames and Muscat d’Alexandrie is no exception. “Hanepoot”, as its known amongst the locals, has been in South Africa and the Swartland for more than a century and this grape is commonly used to make dessert wines because of its intense floral qualities. To make this in a dry style is definitely the road less travelled, but so is the Swartland. Making this is lots of fun and enjoying the wine even more so. Today this speaks of history and heritage while embracing the future with a dry style. These old bush vines planted in decomposed granite and the wine was fermented on the skins for a couple of days. – Andre Bruyns.
