Yo El Rey Grenache/Syrah 2018

R200

Angelo van Dyk is the winemaker for Yo El Rey. He is London based, where he has been working as a sommelier for the past 6 years. Originally from South Africa, he launched Yo El Rey in 2017 to give him the opportunity to make wine in his home and to reconnect with African soils, but still remain rooted in London, a place he considers to be ground zero for the global wine game.

The 2018 vintage was made in a shared winemaking facility in Stellenbosch on the Hoopenburg Road. The name Yo El Rey was inspired by Picasso, and it’s what he signed his early paintings. A light and bright, crunchy style of red.Syrah is from the Voor-Paardeberg, and the Grenache is from Bot River. Both Syrah and the Grenache were pressed using basket press separately, and then racked to old 225l French oak barrels. Aged for 8/9 months in barrel.
