Donkiesbaai Rooiwijn 2017


The label by Rust en Vrede is a celebration of Donkiesbaai, the Weskus home where the Engelbrecht family have their holidays for years. Using fruit sourced from specifically identified vineyards in the Cape.

The Rooiwijn is a blend of Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Syrah from grapes the Piekenierskloof region. The Grenache Noir and Cinsault were spontaneously fermented as whole bunches. The Syrah was de-stemmed and fermented as whole berries to limit over extraction and promote red fruit flavours. After fermentation, each varietal was matured in 500l seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months.
