Treat Yo Self (6 bottle)

Six of the best wines around? Treat yo self! That’s right, this case of 6 bottles is nothing short of stupendous. Wines that demand attention when drinking, the kind you’ll either want to share with someone special or with nobody at all. In the curated case is: Le Lude Brut Reserve NV, which spends 3 years on the lees, making it incredibly rich and complex and a new favourite of ours. Flotsam & Jetsam Chenin Blanc by Alheit Vineyards is an incredible example of the varietal, and Peter Allan Finlayson is carving out iconic status for his Crystallum brand with another stellar vintage. Ian Naude’s Cinsault is easily one of the finest ever made in SA. Fable Night Sky is a sentimental favourite, a blend so smooth and crafted it’s hard not to fall in love each sip, while Sijnn Syrah shows what Malgas as a Wine of Origin has the potential to achieve. Ridiculous wines, all of these. Treat yo self!

Crystallum 'Peter Max' Pinot Noir 2017

A small, family run winery in the Walker Bay region, brothers Andrew and Peter-Allan are the third generation of Finlayson winemakers (and interestingly enough, the sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir making in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley). The grapes are 100% Hemel-en-Aarde sourced and loaded with crushed strawberry, cranberry and blueberry fruit. With an earthy finish, this wine is impossibly hard not to open on purchase – we dare you.

Fable Night Sky 2014

Watch this space! Located up against the rugged slopes of the Witzenberg Mountain range, Fable focuses on producing pure expressions of Rhône varieties and they're getting damned well good at it. A recent 5-star rating and consistent praise is easily deserved for the winery which practices minimal intervention in the cellar and biodynamic practices in the vineyard. Their Night Sky, a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache is everything you want from a bold red wine. Hello winter, we saw you coming.

Le Lude Brut Reserve NV

Le Lude-Brut
Le Lude, a new farm in Franschhoek that only produces bubbly, presents their first release MCC. With a focus on exceptional quality, this is an (almost) equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; 36 months on the lees, six months on cork before release. Perfection.

Flotsam & Jetsam Chenin Blanc 2017

Great new release from Chris & Suzaan Alheit of Alheit Vineyards, a range of two wines that they describe as their 'house wines,' what they drink all the time. The Chenin Blanc is from vineyards in the Swartland, which makes sense since they've driven thousands of miles working with various vineyards in the area and have found some real gems there. Real crazy value considering its got balance and finesse for daaaays.

Sijnn Syrah 2014

Another outstanding wine from the Sijnn family led by pioneering David Trafford. At the cellar in Malgas, on the Breede River, winemaker Charla Haasbroek is making some of the best wines around. Rich and fruit-forward, but with plenty of earthy notes, this a Syrah for Syrah lovers.

Naude 'Old Vines' Cinsault 2014

Ian Naude's extremely limited volumes of wine released under this eponymous range all knock it out the park. From his cellar space in Stellenbosch he crafts this, one of the best Cinsault's available. More depth, weight and texture than most others, you'll immediately notice the finesse. If you thought Cinsault was just about easy drinking juicy quaffers, buy this to change your mind.
