Swartlandia (6 bottle)

Funky, fresh and creative, this region is a total winner when it comes to producing unique wines. A varied selection, this gives a good scope of wines that are made naturally, in limited quantities using traditional techniques.

Mount Abora 'Saffraan' Cinsault 2016

Saffraan FI
One of the best lighter-style red wines we've come across, ever. Take a trip down memory lane with this  light yet earthy Cinsault, a return to the root of South African red wine drinking. Cinsault has been grown in the Cape since the 1880's, and though popular in the 50's and 60's as a base for some iconic wines (Chateau Libertas, anyone?), it fell off the map. But it's back and with a vengeance (cue music)!

Tobias Red 2014

Bryan MacRobert’s philosophy is to produce wines that are unique and capture the consumer, and this Tobias is pretty darn enrapturing. With a focus on quality and consistency, this Swartland red is equal parts Shiraz, Cinsault and Mourvedre, and whether young or old, it’s a beaut that goes down with ease. Elegant, fruity and floral with a hint of spice, you pretty much have a fireside wine that’ll keep winter’s woes at bay. And no nasties – no yeasts, bacteria, enzymes or clarification agents or rubbish added at any point: au natural!

Aspoestertjie Colombard 2014

Made from the seemingly long-forgotten varietal of Colombard. Aspoestertjie (Afrikaans for Cinderella), this 'Cinderella of white grapes' offers the same tart, freshness you'd expect in a Sauvignon Blanc but with unique flavour profile. Produced from a single 29-year old vineyard and matured for 10 months in older barrels. Drink now or forever hold your peace.

Paardebosch Chenin Blanc 2014

From the other Sadie's comes a great drink under R150. This Paardebosch Chenin is a winner all the way. David and Nadia Sadie are prime examples of the younger generation of winemakers who are striving to make wine from old vines, in a fresh style with minimum intervention in the cellar. It's fresh, clean and you're going to enjoy it. But only if you act quickly.

Secateurs Red Blend 2012

Another cracker from the Wine Pirate! This characterful blend of Syrah, Pinotage, Merlot, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon from AA Badenhorst is ripe yet spicy with buckets of fruity flavours. Drinks as well as the winemaker talks.

Nativo Red Blend 2010

Have your cake and eat it! Big and weighty but with soft drinkable structure, this guy's not messing around. And produced organically and with minimal intervention, Nativo wines are pure – just how we like it. A Shiraz, Grenache, Merlot, Mourvedre and Pinotage blend, it's complex yet fruity, with dark berries and mineral overtones. YUM!
